INCASE in National Development Plan to support development of central guidance on ecosystem services

INCASE Team

The INCASE project is mentioned in the Government's renewed National Development Plan 2021 - 2030, issued by the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform and launched on October 4th, 2021 by Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar, the Minister for the Environment, Climate Communications and Transport, Eamon Ryan and the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Michael McGrath.

An excerpt from Page 36 of the National Development Plan is as follows:

"Over the longer term, the Department will examine the role that the Public Spending Code can play in the achievement of broader environmental objectives. In particular, it will investigate whether the Code can play a positive role through the development of central guidance on valuing biodiversity or ecosystem services.

This will be informed by the results from the Government-supported work under way on natural capital accounting such as the INCASE project and the Government’s Biodiversity Action Plan.

The plan lays out a detailed vision for Ireland over the next 10 years, with public investment of €165 billion over the period 2021-2030.
